È nella seconda metà del Medioevo che iniziano a nascere i primi ristoranti, allora noti con il nome di "Taverne".

A quei tempi, la taverna, non era solo un luogo dove gustare le pietanze preparate dalla cucina, ma era anche luogo di incontro e soprattutto di rifugio. Infatti, nelle giornate fredde e piovose, il "ristorante" offriva riparo ai viandanti che, al prezzo di una piccola quota chiamata "coperto" potevano portare e consumare il proprio cibo all'interno del locale. Ora, sperando che voi non abbiate portato il vostro cibo e che siate qui per gustare la nostra cucina, non vediamo il motivo per cui dovremmo chiedervi il coperto!
